Empecemos con esta nueva selección de lunfardos

1º Cortado

"Mozo, ¿me trae un cortado, por favor?" Significa: "Mozo, ¿me trae un café con un poquito de leche, por favor?". Es una expresión muy usada en las cafeterías.

"Estás re cortado. ¿pasa algo?" Significa: "Estas re distante ¿pasa algo?"

2º Pochoclo

Si estás de visita en la ciudad y no querías perderte el estreno mundial de tu película favorita, abstenete de llegar al cine y pedir "Popcorn" o "Palomitas de Maíz". Acá al maíz inflado le decimos "Pocholo" y podes pedirlo dulce o salado.

3º Gauchada

"¿Me haces una gauchada?". Significa: ¿Me haces un favor?

Una persona "gauchita" es una persona bien predispuesta a ayudar a los demás.

4º Previa /Boliche

La "previa", como bien su nombre lo indica, es la juntada con amigos que antecede al "boliche", que vendría a ser la "disco". Por favor, no uses el termino "disco" acá, es muy retro y extranjero.

Las previas suelen arrancar a las 23.00 hs, después del horario de la cena. Se toma alcohol y se acompaña con una picada. Al boliche se va a bailar a partir de las 2:00 am en adelante.

5º Quilombo

Quilombo = Lio.

En la ciudad de la furia, todo siempre es un quilombo y la expresión "Que quilombo el tránsito" estaría por desplazar el "Hola, que tal".

Lunfardo (Vol II) Welcome to the second post of typical BA expressions. Sadly I could not include it in the previous "top 5" post. Here is the link to the first one about lunfardo.

Let's begin with this new list of lunfardos

1º "Cortado" "Mozo, ¿me trae un cortado, por favor?". Also known as "cortadito" or "gibraltar" in some parts of the world, when asking for it you are looking for a coffee with some milk. It is one of the most heard words in cafeterias.

'Cortado' is also an adjective to describe a shy or distant person.

"Estás re cortado, ¿te pasa algo?"; "You're distant today, what's going on?"

2º Pochoclo Should you be visiting town and looking for the premiere of your favourite movie, it is always a good opportunity to look for some pop-corns. Bear in mind that in Argentina we ask for "pochoclos" and not 'popcorn". You may eat it them whether sweet or salty.

3º Gauchada "¿Me haces una gauchada?". It means: "would you do me a favour?"

If you are "gauchito", it means that you are always in good mood when helping the other.

4º Previa/Boliche The "previa" is a friend meeting before going to "el boliche" (A.K.A disco). Avoid using "disco" because you will sound old-fashioned and you will not be understood. The "previa" usually begins not before 11PM, after dinner, up to 2AM when people head into the "boliche".

5º Quilombo

Quilombo = Mess

In this concret jungle, mess is found at any moment, specially when referring to traffic ("Que quilombo el tránsito" ["Traffic is a mess"]). By times I tend to think that "Que quilombo el tránsito" will replace "Hola, ¿qué tal?" ('Hello, how are you?')
